Why we did it
Khan Academy had a long-standing brand held up by its collage-style illustrations. While the style itself worked well, our workflow to make these illustrations created a lot of inconsistency and ended up diluting the brand. We shored up the brand by systematizing the compositions, reducing our secondary color palette, reducing our photographic textures, and creating a flexible formula that allowed any designer to easily make something new in our style.
